Veterans who returned from the front lines did what they themselves lacked in battle: quick, sturdy, and proven shelters. This is how the engineering company BUNKER UA came into being.
From the trenches to the laboratory
At the start of the full-scale war, the founders of BUNKER UA volunteered. Kyiv, Mykolaiv, Kherson — combat experience clearly showed that without reliable shelters, military personnel and civilians lose what is most valuable: time and the chance to survive. Returning in September 2022, they gathered reinforced concrete and fibre-reinforced concrete engineers, combined frontline practice with academic expertise, and launched their own R&D developments.
What exactly did they change?
BUNKER UA designed a new generation of shelters made of reinforced fibre-reinforced concrete, which:
- can be quickly deployed (modularity and factory readiness),
- can withstand the rigours of modern warfare (certification, field tests),
- can be scaled to the task at hand — from 4 to 10,000 people,
- can be adapted to the location: above-ground, semi-underground, and underground solutions.
In 2023–2024, the team underwent certification and field tests, obtained patents for utility models, and confirmed critical stability parameters. In particular, the VOLAT mobile FSC system is certified for 848 kPa (protection class A-I) against excess shock wave pressure — this is not an advertising slogan, but the result of a series of official tests and calculations. At the same time, the company has delivered more than 300 modifications of its solutions (VOLAT and HONOR) across the country, opened a representative office in Poland, and begun certification in the EU.

- VOLAT — a mobile fortification system with proven durability (848 kPa, A-I). A basic solution for combat positions and critical infrastructure.
- VOLAT TWIN — an extended configuration based on two modules: more capacity, more scenarios.
- VOLAT Under / ‘Bunker’ — semi-recessed and underground options where a higher level of protection and silence is required.

In 2024, a representative office was opened in Poland and certification in the EU was launched. This means legal presence in the European market, partnerships with local manufacturers and faster delivery.
